Feeding a toddler is one of the most ‘challenging’ part of parenting.Appetites of young children can change from day to day or even time to time for that matter.Sometimes, your toddler will be hungry and eat a lot. Other times, they will not eat much. This is normal. Do not pressurise or bribe your child to eat or to finish a meal if they are no longer hungry.The food chart for 1 to 2 year old toddler will give you an idea of the variety of meals that can be offered to your child.You may change the timings and recipe as per your baby’s requirements.

Also,there is diversity and multiplicity of food habits in different regions and countries.Feel free to try new recipes and get your little one to eat better. You may also be showered with advise of the elders in the family, which may clash with what your little one’s paediatrician says. You may have to give due respect to the elders and make them feel you obey them, and yet strike a balance for your baby’s well-being by giving her/ him what is wholesome, safe and filling.

Tips:

1.Children should  be breastfed even after they turn one if the mother lactates.Don’t forget ,breast milk has nutritional properties that are irreplaceable by other foods.

2. Every baby is different and so is the eating habit and quantity of food. Never force feed your baby.

3.Offer small soft  feeds as baby is still not used to having different variety of food. New food in big amounts result in constipation in most babies.Don’t panic. However offer enough fluids .

4.You can substitute vegetable soup with clear chicken soup or chicken pulao if you want to offer non-vegetarian food to your baby.Fish fillets properly cleaned and cooked , can be offered too.Boiled egg can also be given as a snack.

6.Make sure that the foods you offer are prepared with little or no added salt or sugar. Include healthy foods that are higher in fat like salmon, avocado, cheese, and nut butters like peanut butter.

7.Offer water between meals and snacks to quench thirst.

8.It can be challenging to get enough protein, fat, omega-3 fats, vitamin B12, vitamin D, iron, calcium and zinc from some vegetarian diets. Pay extra attention to these nutrients.
