Avocado Toast Recipe- Original and Easy to Make

As Avocado is not a fruit of Indian origin, and is just lately being made available through supermarkets,I did not have an idea about ‘how to use an Avocado’ in various recipes.Well, I guess I am not the only Indian who knows not about Avocado ,as I had quite a few people asking me ‘what do you do with this fruit?’. Also, since there are many different types of Avocados, I had to give a few tries to understand when the fruit is ripe and ‘right’ and can be actually used in popular recipes. Why all the fuss then about unraveling the mystery of using an Avocado? Well, it is a fruit that is prized for its high nutrition value and is known to give a rich texture and flavour to various dishes. The mom in me wanted to give this ‘Superfood’ to my kids in a way that they would love it.

According to Healthline,Avocados are very nutritious and contain a wide variety of nutrients, including 20 different vitamins and minerals.

Here are some of the most abundant nutrients, in a single 3.5-ounce (100-gram) serving (3):

  • Vitamin K: 26% of the daily value (DV)
  • Folate: 20% of the DV
  • Vitamin C: 17% of the DV
  • Potassium: 14% of the DV
  • Vitamin B5: 14% of the DV
  • Vitamin B6: 13% of the DV
  • Vitamin E: 10% of the DV
  • It also contains small amounts of magnesium, manganese, copper, iron, zinc, phosphorus and vitamins A, B1 (thiamine), B2 (riboflavin) and B3 (niacin).

Given the above, I tried many different ways and recipes of using an Avocado and the best one turned out to be the Avocado Toast/Sandwich.My children love it and it has become a wonderful snack/tiffin option for them.

So here’s sharing my tried and tested recipe with pictures (Disclaimer-Pictures are taken in their original form (without effects) in my home set up. So kindly bear with my photography skills. 🙂 )

Avocado Toast/Sandwich Recipe

Ingredients:

1 Avocado

1/4 lemon (Approx 1 teaspoon lemon juice)

A pinch of salt ( I used black salt.)

A pinch of powdered pepper (optional)

6 slices of brown/multigrain  bread

1 tablespoon butter (optional)

Method:

1.Take a ripe Avocado. How do you find whether its ripe?Well, look for avocados that feel soft when you gentle squeeze it.Mostly the skin turns blackish brown when the Avocado ripens. Cut it, remove the seed and scoop out the Avocado from its peel using a spoon.

2. Mash the Avocado with a fork or spoon.

4. Toast the bread to the required amount of crunch, either in a toaster or on a pan.I like to toast it on a pan with a little bit of butter.

5. Spread the Avocado mixture on the bread as an open toast or a sandwich.Your Avocado toast is ready to eat. Enjoy!

  1. I am hearing about avocado toast quite a lot since last week. And now you explained how it is made. It is a universal fact that avocado is rich in nutrients and if it is so easy to make then everyone should try it.
